After the disappointment of cancelling most of this year’s productions, Hebden Bridge Little Theatre is feeling optimistic for 2021 and cannot wait to return to the stage.
President Gilly Walker said:
‘Our first play this season went ahead as normal but since then we have sadly been completely shut down along with every other theatre in the country. We have moved the rest of the 2020 season in to 2021 with a slight re-arrangement.
‘Hopefully we will re-open in the first week of March 2021 with When We Are Married, by J.B. Priestley.
‘We are trying to be patient, whilst waiting to re-open, as we are all passionate about live theatre and are conscious of a gaping hole in our lives.
‘We are champing at the bit to get back on the stage and will shortly be looking at ways we can perform outside or individually on stage in line with Government guidelines.’
‘We hope to be able to organise a Christmas concert for members, with individuals performing self-rehearsed items (monologues, songs, recitals), much as we usually do. This obviously depends on what the medical and Government advice is, at the time.’
The Little Theatre has spent lockdown completing maintenance jobs, such as deep cleans and tidying the canal patio, which has also now been provided with a handsome metal hand-rail. Volunteers have re-covered our canvas stage flats in plywood, in line with current best practice.
The wardrobe area is being redesigned so we can fit more in and have easier access to what we have. Shelving is being put up so we can see all our shoes and hats at a glance. Permanent rails are being fitted to the walls to enable us to have more space to hang dresses, coats etc. Some clothes will still be on portable stands but there won’t be so many, making access easier.
In addition, Hannah has been busy preparing artistic displays of past productions to decorate the corridor walls.
Wonderful to hear about all the hard work that is being done ! Many thanks to you all! I do really hope that some kind of Christmas concert, outdoor performance, etc will be possible even if only to a smaller audience
Thanks, Anita!
