History of the Little Theatre, 1924-2024

2024 is a significant milestone in the history of Hebden Bridge Little Theatre, as it marks a hundred years since the theatre’s formation, in 1924. As part of the Centenary celebrations, Vaughan Leslie gave the following talk to the Local History Society, on 10 April, based on his book, Hebden Bridge Little Theatre, An Illustrated History, 1924-2024.

The curtains opening, at the Ground Floor theatre in 1954. Featuring the iconic Art Deco logo designed by Jimmy Henderson in 1933, and created for the new theatre by Dorothy Sowden in 1937. This short film clip comes from a six minute comedy filmed in the theatre by the Hebden Bridge Literary and Scientific Society Cine Section. The film is in the Yorkshire Film Archive, and can be viewed at https://www.yfanefa.com/record/8048 .

We have repeated the curtain opening to extend the running time of the clip.
