The Wingfield family – mother Amanda, son Tom, daughter Laura and their father, long gone but whose presence
still lingers. They live in a shoe-box apartment in St Louis Missouri. The closest they come to privacy is the use
of curtains that subdivide their tiny living space. Mother resents son for his inability to grow up; son resents mother
for the menial job he endures to support them all. In between them is Laura- extremely shy who opts out of life.
She escapes into a fantasy world where she is confidant to a collection of glass animals.

Every character wants to escape the dull ritual of their lives. Can the entrance of a gentleman caller do this?
