By J.B. Priestley, directed by Ray Riches

Clecklewyke, a town in the West Riding, 1908. The Helliwells, the Parkers and the Soppitts are highly respected pillars of their community…but not for much longer. Married on the same day in the same chapel, 25 years earlier, they gather to celebrate their Silver Wedding anniversaries, only to discover that the vicar wasn’t licensed. They were never married, and have been living in sin for the last 25 years!

Horrified social embarrassment turns to the realisation that they’re free from the shackles of long, tedious marriages. Home truths are dealt, bullies get their come-uppance, and the hen-pecked are hilariously and most satisfyingly liberated.

Originally included in our abandoned 2020 Season, When We Are Married marks the return to a regular programme, at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre.
