Audition notice for Deathtrap by Ira Levin
Directed by David Howes
Sunday 9th of November at 6.30pm in the Little Theatre
Performance Dates: April 20th to the 25th 2026
About the Production:
Deathtrap is a sharp, darkly comedic thriller about ambition, manipulation, and the blurred lines between art and reality. In this fresh, all-female reimagining of Ira Levin’s classic, the gender-flipped casting amplifies the play’s tension and wit, exploring power and creativity through a new lens.
Sidney Bruhl, once a celebrated playwright of Broadway thrillers, is desperate to regain her former glory. When she receives an ingenious new play from her student Cleo Anderson, Sidney sees a path back to success — but it might require murder. Twists, turns, and razor-edged humor make Deathtrap a masterclass in suspense.
Roles:
SIDNEY BRUHL – (40s–60s) A once-successful playwright now struggling with creative failure. Sharp, witty, and dangerously ambitious.
CLEO ANDERSON – (20s–30s) A talented and passionate young writer. Intelligent, charming, and ambitious — with hidden layers. (formerly “Clifford”)
MYRA BRUHL – (40s–60s) Sidney’s supportive and anxious wife. Warm-hearted but deeply affected by Sidney’s cynicism.
PORTIA MILGRIM – (40s–70s) A perceptive lawyer and friend of Sidney (formerly “Porter”)
HELGA TEN DORP – (40s–70s) A famous psychic visiting from Europe; flamboyant, sincere, and unpredictable.
