SUMMARY:Le Grand Return
DESCRIPTION:It’s 1994 and the 50th anniversary of D Day looms. Tommy\, Alf and Edwin are incarcerated in Coldrick Nursing Home. In spite of his ever-worsening heart condition\, D Day veteran\, Tommy\, is determined to break out and rejoin his old comrades on the Normandy beaches. But how will they escape… and what will happen along the way? This gentle comedy drama is about love\, remembrance\, war and peace. \nAudience response: \n“We were totally entranced…” \n“Brilliant! Far better than anything I’ve seen on stage of late.…” \n“Blown away by the brilliance of Le Grand Return. Beautiful writing\, wonderful moving performances\, belly laughs and running gags\, tragedy and sorrow of friends lost and sacrifices made. It was a privilege to see it…” \n“Absolutely stunned by last night’s performance – talk about an emotional roller coaster! Was superb from beginning to end. It wouldn’t have been out of place on the West End stage.” \n“Beautifully expressed\, several people near to us were in tears\, it was difficult not to join them. I hope many take the opportunity to see Le Grand Return – I urge them to do so. This is truly what theatre is all about.” \nTICKETS: https://www.wegottickets.com/event/609899

SUMMARY:A Midsummer Night's Dream
DESCRIPTION:A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare \n17th – 22nd June 2024 \nDirector: Jenny Gore \nTICKETS \nOne of Shakespeare’s most popular works\, this play combines lyricism\, comedy\, magic and love in an enchanting and spectacular way. Four young lovers wander through the midsummer forest in a dreamlike state brought on by the magical mischief of Puck from the fairy world of Titania and Oberon. At the same time in the wood\, a group of amateur actors are rehearsing a play as an entertainment for the wedding of Duke Theseus and Hippolyta. Bottom\, one of the actors\, falls victim to another of Puck’s spells when his head is transformed into that of an ass. Mayhem ensues so that the lovers think that they must be dreaming and Puck sums it all up with\, “Lord\, what fools these mortals be!” \n© Poster image – Stuart Hought

DESCRIPTION:Accidental Death of and Anarchist \nby Dario Fo and Franca Rame. Adapted by Tom Basden. \nApril 7th – 12th 2025 \nDirected by David Howes \nWritten in the 1970s to point a satirical finger at the corrupt nature of the police and justice system\, this acerbic and funny play received a timely 2023 update\, switching the setting from Italy to the London Met\, and lets loose the protagonist of The Maniac\, to expose the hypocrisies within an institution that has failed to protect and serve for decades now. \nBoth witty and challenging\, this is a breakneck comedy that demands and holds your attention\, promising laughs and provocations aplenty. \nTICKETS AVAILABLE \nPoster Design – Hannah Stow \n

SUMMARY:Why God Created Lesbians by Clare Summerskill
DESCRIPTION:Why God Created Lesbians by Clare Summerskill \nSaturday 10th May 2025\n7:00 PM – 8:45 PM \nClare Summerskill returns to UK theatres with a brilliant new show for 2025: Why God Created Lesbians \nIn her brand-new one-woman show\, Clare Summerskill attempts to explain the point of the perplexing sexual minority to which she belongs\, asking why lesbians exist? Is it to ease the pressure on cat rescue centres? Is it to ensure that Shibden Hall remains a viable tourist attraction? Or is it to write one-woman comedy shows featuring songs\, stand-up and storytelling? After decades of field research\, she thinks she has the answer. \nExpect silliness\, satire and self-deprecation from crowd-pleaser Clare Summerskill as she hits the road with her funniest show yet. Clare will share the previously unheard story of the lesbian squirrel on the Ark\, forced to take up a complaint about compulsory heterosexuality with Noah himself; and she will finally uncover the Almighty’s real opinion about women-loving-women. \nA packed comedy show from ‘one of the funniest women in the country’ (What’s On) with a keen fanbase across the UK (gay and straight!). Clare has previously written for BBC Radio 4’s Weekending and Heated Rollers and toured her shows to theatres in the UK and the US. \nPraise for Clare Summerskill’s previous shows: \n‘Engaging and Charming’ Time Out\n‘A lesbian Victoria Wood’ Woman’s Hour\n‘Fantastic show\, hilarious\, witty\, intelligent and moving’ ***** Audience member\n‘Gritty\, funny comedy – great evening’ ***** Audience member\n‘What are you waiting for? Grab your tickets now!’ Diva \nFor all booking inquiries please contact: claresummerskill@gmail.com | www.claresummerskill.co.uk \nTICKETS AVAILABLE \n
