SUMMARY:Twelfth Night
DESCRIPTION:By William Shakespeare\, directed by Jenny Gore \n5-10 December 2022 \nIf music be the food of love\, play on \nIn Shakespeare’s time\, the Festival of Twelfth Night was the night of ‘Topsy Turvydom’.  Servants became masters\, and masters became servants\, boys dressed as girls and women became men for the night. Attitudes on class and gender were turned upside down\, providing rich material for the Bard’s subversive wit. \nThe stage is filled with vividly drawn characters\, aristocrats and servants\, twins\, lovers\, musicians and jesters\, all in a confusion of disguise\, mistaken identity and unrequited love. The result is a wonderful combination of comedy and cross-gender love interest\, making the play as relevant now as when it was written. \nIt will be 59 years since the Little Theatre’s one and only previous attempt at Shakespeare (also Twelfth Night)\, in 1963. We hope you enjoy this production\, and trust it will not be so long again\, before the next one! \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Kukutis in the Dark
DESCRIPTION:Kukutis in the Dark: audio drama\, plus Q and A with the team \n When: Sunday 14th May 2023. 7.30pm (doors and bar from 7pm) \nWhere: Hebden Bridge Little Theatre\, Holme Street\, Hebden Bridge HX7 8EE \n Tickets: available from Ticket Source www.ticketsource.co.uk/arc-publications\, concessions £5.00\, full price £8.00. Tickets also available on the door. \nWritten by poet and playwright Amanda Dalton and directed for ARC publications by award-winning producer Polly Thomas\, Kukutis In The Dark is an anarchic\, political\, playful audio adaptation of The Ballads of Kukutis\, an iconic poetry sequence by Lithuania’s leading poet\, Marcelijus Martinaitis (1936- 2013)\, translated by Laima Vincė. \n Featuring a brilliant sound design and offering the audience a unique in-the-dark playback experience\, the piece stars Paterson Joseph (Vigil\, Peep Show)\, Guy Rhys (Mary Queen of Scots\, The Witcher) and Kristina Buikaite (Lithuanian Theatre Company). \nThe event will run from 7.30 – 9.30pm including interval with bar\, an introduction from ARC and informal Q and A with the creative team following the playout. This promises to be an informative\, unusual and entertaining evening\, bringing to vivid life a cultural icon who speaks powerfully to politics in Europe today. \n The Ballads of Kukutis was written in the last days of Soviet rule in Lithuania. Its hero\, the trickster figure Kukutis\, acts and comments on the world around him in the manner of a Shakespearean fool on acid! Kukutis is a folk hero in Lithuania\, symbolising the ‘little’ people rising up against the elite. When Lithuania broke away from Soviet rule in 1988\, in what became known as the ‘Singing’ Revolution\, thousands of people gathered on the streets singing and shouting the name of Kukutis as a symbol of a free\, independent Lithuania. \nProduced by ARC Publications https://www.arcpublications.co.uk/- and supported by the Lithuanian Culture Institute.

SUMMARY:AUDITION - The Long Road
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our next read through!\n\n\nAudition/Read Through for The Long Road \nWhen: Saturday Feb 4th 2024 \nWhere: Hebden Bridge Little Theatre \nTime: 7pm \nProduction Dates: 8th – 13th April 2024 \n\nWhen eighteen-year-old Danny is fatally stabbed in a random attack his family struggles to find meaning and forgiveness. His mother’s determination to understand the atrocity brings her face to face with his killer and forces the family to confront the bitter senselessness of their loss\, and the conflict their different approach to grieving causes. \nCasting will take place at the Little Theatre on Sunday 4th February 2024 at 7pm\, where we will read through the play\, followed by a short audition process. \nCharacter with ages (as given in script) are below. Please note age is flexible in casting\, which will be more focused on believable relationships between roles. \nMary-52- Danny and Joe’s Mother\, struggling with the day to day absence of her son. Can’t understand why he was killed. Wants to meet Emma to see if it brings some understanding/sense of peace. \nJohn-age not stated- Danny and Joe’s Father\, initially coped with Danny’s death by running\, but a knee injury leads him to shut himself off and hit the bottle. Cannot forgive Emma\, and harbours deep anger and resentment\, doesn’t understand why his wife wants to meet her. \nJoe-20 Danny’s brother- struggling with survivor guilt as was with Danny when he was killed. Feels that his parents\, particularly his dad\, blame him for Danny’s death. Resents his parents inability to see past Danny’s death and support their surviving son. \nEmma-18-Danny’s killer- Addicted to drugs and alcohol at a young age\, a highly volatile\, unpredictable vulnerable young lady\, hiding her vulnerability within an aggressive\, “bolshy” exterior. Lies as a defence mechanism. Described as a “constantly hyped powder keg of energy”\, but also has a highly wicked sense of humour and so ability to pull the comedy from the text is a must. \nElizabeth-30s- Emma’s social worker and family liason. Supports the Pritchard family through the process of meeting Emma and is party to many uncomfortable conversations. Is determined not to let Emma get under her skin and push her away. There is a large degree of interpretation available as to how this role is played\, but it is important she is played with deliberate emotional choices. \nHope to see many of you there!\nIf you are interested in attending/want further information please contact Rachel on wotastar1@hotmail.com or via fb messenger.

SUMMARY:Hayfever
DESCRIPTION:Hayfever by Noel Coward \n26th February – 2nd March 2024 \nDirector: Hannah Stow \n  \nJudith Bliss\, a retired actress\, and her author husband David live with their two children Simon and Sorrel in the Berkshire countryside. \nA family of self-absorbed bohemians\, they pursue a life unconstrained by mainstream values. \nIndependently of each other\, they invite four guests to stay over the weekend. \nWhat ensues is a game of humiliation where the invitees eventually pair off with an entirely different member of the family. \nUnable to stand any more of their host’s self-serving behaviour the guests leave the house as quietly as they are able. \nWritten in 1924 and first produced in 1925\, Hayfever was Noel Coward’s first major commercial success\, and combines high farce with a comedy of manners. \n“…a celebration of abnormality\, and at the same time a disquieting study of both the pleasure and pains of not being able to restrain oneself.” (Evening Standard) \n© Poster image Hannah Stow

SUMMARY:The Long Road
DESCRIPTION:The Long Road by Shelagh Stephenson \n8th – 13th April 2024 \nDirector: Rachel Doyle-Richards \n  \nThe Long Road was created as a collaboration between Shelagh Stephenson\, The Forgiveness project and Synergy theatre\, as a hard-hitting and honest exploration of the impact of crime\, both on the victims and the perpetrators. The Long Road is a gritty\, emotional and at times darkly humorous look at the complexity of responses to bereavement and violent crime.\nWhen eighteen-year-old Danny is fatally stabbed in a random attack his family struggles to find meaning and forgiveness. His mother’s determination to understand the atrocity “no matter the cost” brings her face to face with his killer\, forcing the family to confront the bitter senselessness of their loss.\nThis production intends to combine realistic acting style; showing the complex roles and relationships\, with heightened stylisation; highlighting the emotional claustrophobia felt by the characters. \n  \n© Poster image – Hannah Stow

SUMMARY:A Midsummer Night's Dream
DESCRIPTION:A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare \n17th – 22nd June 2024 \nDirector: Jenny Gore \nTICKETS \nOne of Shakespeare’s most popular works\, this play combines lyricism\, comedy\, magic and love in an enchanting and spectacular way. Four young lovers wander through the midsummer forest in a dreamlike state brought on by the magical mischief of Puck from the fairy world of Titania and Oberon. At the same time in the wood\, a group of amateur actors are rehearsing a play as an entertainment for the wedding of Duke Theseus and Hippolyta. Bottom\, one of the actors\, falls victim to another of Puck’s spells when his head is transformed into that of an ass. Mayhem ensues so that the lovers think that they must be dreaming and Puck sums it all up with\, “Lord\, what fools these mortals be!” \n© Poster image – Stuart Hought
