SUMMARY:A Regular Terror
DESCRIPTION:A Regular Terror by Alan Stockdill \nFriday 26th & Saturday 27th June \nDoor time: 7:00pm.\nStart time: 7:30pm \nLaura Annie Willson. Mill girl\, activist\, trade unionist\, feminist\, engineer\, housebulder. What a woman\, what a legacy. \nSpeaking at an outdoor meeting in Hebden Bridge in support of a weavers’ strike\, Laura Annie was arrested. In court she demanded to be tried by a jury of women. Instead she was sent to Armley jail for 14 days. Afterwards she said: “I went into prison a rebel and I came out a regular terror”. \nShe went on to become a leading figure in the Suffragette movement\, a friend of Emmeline Pankhurst. \nShe was imprisoned in Holloway with Emily Davison. She became an engineer and was awarded the MBE for her services to the war effort\, before going on to build over 800 worker’s houses. \nBorn into poverty in a man’s world\, she didn’t just break the glass ceiling\, she smashed it to smithereens. From rags to riches\, mill worker to millionaire\, prison to palace\, she never forgot her roots or her social conscience. \nCome and be inspired by the incredible story of this feisty northern lass whose grit and determination knew no bounds. \nTickets available here

SUMMARY:The Tempest
DESCRIPTION:The Tempest by William Shakespeare \nDirected by Jenny Gore \nMon 5th October 2026 – Sat 10th October 2026\n7.30 p.m \nThe Tempest was one of Shakespeare’s last plays. After the first scene\, depicting a ship at sea in a mighty tempest\, the story continues on a remote island inhabited by the magician Prospero and his daughter\, Miranda\, who were washed ashore twelve years before. They live with an untamed monster\, Caliban\, and a spirit\, Ariel\, who lived on the island before Prospero arrived\, but are forced into servitude by him. \nThe play explores themes of magic\, betrayal\, revenge and forgiveness. It reflects the cruelty of colonialism in the 17th century\, and it is possible that Shakespeare based the character of Prospero on himself\, for just as Prospero relinquished his magic\, Shakespeare stopped creating his magical plays. \nTickets available now!
