SUMMARY:Bazaar and Rummage
DESCRIPTION:By Sue Townsend\, directed by Gil Burns \nIn Sue Townsend’s heartfelt comedy\, three severely agoraphobic women have left their houses for the first time in years\, and made it to a jumble sale. The sale has been organised by their social workers\, the young trainee Fliss and the ex-agoraphobic volunteer\, Gwenda. \nAs Margaret\, Bell-Bell and Katrina prepare to meet the public\, armed with the suits of a deceased husband\, old sequinned show dresses\, a standard lamp\, and other bric-a-brac\, nerves run high\, but a sensitive portrait of the group emerges. \nBazaar and Rummage was first presented in 1982 at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs\, London. \n

SUMMARY:Big Comedy Little Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Canalside Comedy has lined up another cracking night of stand-up comedy\, for Sunday 8 December.\nMC Matt Fong will be joined by Sam Gore\, Becky Heaviside\, Tom Little and Steve Day. \nMatt’s debut solo show at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival\, was picked as one of the best shows in Edinburgh\, so we’re excited to see him in Hebden Bridge. \nNewer Act\, Becky Heaviside will perform alongside prolific writer and performer\, Sam Gore. Sam cemented his position as one of the best new comedians of his generation with five New Act of the Year awards\, including the national Laughing Horse competition. With his rapid-fire delivery and unique use of language and imagery\, nobody writes a simile quite like Gore. \n‘Inventive\, unexpected and often very silly…[Tom Little]…surely can’t remain a hidden treasure for long.’ – Chortle. This is a rare chance to see him in such an intimate setting.  \nClosing the show\, we’ve got Steve Day\, Britain’s only deaf comedian – well if there are any others\, he hasn’t heard. A familiar voice on Radio 4\, for the past fourteen years Steve has been performing to huge laughter around the country (well they tell him the laughter was huge to humour him\, he doesn’t know either way). \nDoors open at 7pm for this show at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre\, which starts at 8pm. Tickets cost £14. Little Theatre members receive a 10% discount with this code: 2198. \nFurther details available at www.canalsidecomedy.co.uk \n

SUMMARY:Feeding the Darkness
DESCRIPTION:‘Art Thou in Darkness? Mind it not for if thou dost\, it will fill thee more…’ \nJames Naylor (17th century Quaker) \nThis 65 minute performance is a result of extensive research into the dark world of state-sanctioned torture and its stark impact on victims\, perpetrators\, families and those who collude in the ‘process’. \nImmersive in style\, Feeding the Darkness frames verbatim monologues\, and dramatic monologues based on true stories\, duologues\, poetry and testimonies which challenge our ignorance and avoidance of this sensitive and disturbing subject. \nIt features such wide-ranging material as the experiences of the mother of Private Lynddie England (court-marshalled for her role in the abuse of Abu Ghraib detainees)\, that of a Kurdish asylum seeker at an appeal tribunal\, and the role of trained medical professionals in state sanctioned torture\, amongst many others. \nFeeding the Darkness both iterates the Quaker position on torture and encourages us to examine how the UN Convention Against Torture (1965) Article 1 is clearly being abused by UK and world-wide governments. \nFeeding the Darkness is on at the Little Theatre\, for one night only\, Friday 24 January 2020\, starting at 7.45pm (doors open 7pm). Tickets are £10\, and are available from the Bookcase\, Market Street\, Hebden Bridge\, and from The Little Bird Café\, 53 Halifax Road\, Todmorden. \nThis production has been commissioned by Q-CAT (Quaker Concern for the Abolition of Torture) and is raising money for the Survivors of Torture Activity Fund.\nTo book a performance or for further information please contact: Journeymen Theatre- www.journeymentheatre.com lynnmorris32@yahoo.co.uk mob: 07791210687

SUMMARY:Entertaining Angels
DESCRIPTION:By Richard Everett\, directed by Sue Morris \nAs a vicar’s wife\, Grace has spent a lifetime on her best behaviour. Now following her husband’s death\, she is enjoying the new-found freedom to do and say exactly as she pleases. \nThe return of Grace’s eccentric missionary sister\, Ruth\, prompts some disturbing revelations\, which force her to confront the truth of her marriage. \n‘a warm\, glowing\, serious comedy\, like an Ayckbourn play finished by J.M.Barrie’ (The Sunday Times)\n‘a sure-fire hit’ (London Evening Standard)

SUMMARY:Big Comedy Little Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Canalside Comedy is gearing up for its next evening of comedy\, on Sunday\, 8 March. Top circuit names Paul Tonkinson and Scott Bennett are joined by newer acts\, Liam Pickford and Celya Ab and your host for the evening will be the talented Bobby Murdoch. \nYorkshire man\, Paul Tonkinson has long upheld his esteemed reputation as one of the finest stand-ups the UK has to offer. With a unique and distinctive style\, Tonkinson is noted for his effervescent physicality and skilful impressions\, which bring alive exuberant\, tender comic reflections on love\, family and the day-to-day idiosyncrasies of 21st century living. A plethora of first-class material\, combined with tremendous charm and irrepressible\, infectious energy make for a formidable talent. \nLiam Pickford has crafted his own unique brand of stand up\, mixing cleverly honed material and punchlines with excitingly unpredictable audience interaction. All this\, mixed in with a hint of whimsy and clever observations\, is delivered in a wonderfully unenthusiastic and grumpy style. It has been said if Stewart Lee\, Jack Dee and Morrissey ever had a child together then Liam would be the outcome. \nCelya Ab is a most unique emerging talent. Originally from Paris\, and of French-Algerian origin\, Celya is now residing in the sunny city of Birmingham. Celya’s sharp wit brings a unique look into life as a EU expat living in post-Brexit Britain. \nScott Bennett’s stand up just gets better and better. Already being compared to the likes of Peter Kay\, Jason Manford and John Bishop\, he’s surely got a bright future. Naturally hilarious\, Scott is immediately engaging with his brilliantly worded observations. See him in the intimate surroundings of Hebden Bridge Little Theatre before he starts stadium tours! \nCompère Bobby Murdoch is instantly likeable and has the ability to take you on a journey with him. A master of short stories and silly jokes\, Bobby has great variation in his show with witty one liners and amazingly funny stories. \nTickets for what is sure to be another great evening of comedy at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre\, are already on sale\, price £14 (https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/canalside-comedy/canalside-comedy/e-drpxbx). SUMMARY:When We Are Married
DESCRIPTION:By J.B. Priestley\, directed by Ray Riches \nClecklewyke\, a town in the West Riding\, 1908. The Helliwells\, the Parkers and the Soppitts are highly respected pillars of their community…but not for much longer. Married on the same day in the same chapel\, 25 years earlier\, they gather to celebrate their Silver Wedding anniversaries\, only to discover that the vicar wasn’t licensed. They were never married\, and have been living in sin for the last 25 years! \nHorrified social embarrassment turns to the realisation that they’re free from the shackles of long\, tedious marriages. Home truths are dealt\, bullies get their come-uppance\, and the hen-pecked are hilariously and most satisfyingly liberated. \n  \nOriginally included in our abandoned 2020 Season\, When We Are Married marks the return to a regular programme\, at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Comedy night: Gary Meikle
DESCRIPTION:The Little Theatre plays host to celebrated comic Gary Meikle\, on 22 January 2022. The show starts at 7:30pm (finishing around 10:00pm)\, and there is a minimum age limit of 16. Tickets can be purchased on https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/all/?keyword=gary+meikle&home=1&hidecancelled=1\, and cost £20.00. \n‘After his meteoric rise through the ranks\, Scottish Comedy Award winner and viral sensation Gary Meikle is back with his second tour show\, Surreal! A word that perfectly describes Gary’s last twelve months. He started the year performing in comedy clubs\, and ended it selling out big theatres in the UK as well as tours in America\, Canada and Europe! \n‘Not one for mincing his words\, Gary has been described as ‘playfully dark’. His cheeky chappie nature and ability to get away with talking about anything will have you laughing at things you probably shouldn’t be! Gary draws material from his own real-life experiences\, including his unique family dynamic and his rapid rise to online fame. Quickly putting his audiences at ease\, a night of stand up with Gary feels like a night in the pub chatting with friends! \n‘Having performed to tens of thousands of people over the past year\, Gary has found a new confidence and level of openness on stage\, meaning he doesn’t hold back on giving his opinions\, no matter how warped! The new show will cover topics such as evolution\, social media\, how to deal with burglars\, single mums\, bee sex\, small man syndrome and much more. Gary is a fast paced\, punchy storyteller who finds the funny in anything!’

SUMMARY:Things I Know to be True
DESCRIPTION:By Andrew Bovell\, directed by Rachel Doyle Richards               \n20-25 June 2022   \nThe play follows the story of Fran and Bob Price and their four children\, over a single year. Each new season contains a crisis\, a turning point\, tough choices\, and the fall-out from those choices. \nAt the start of the play\, the youngest child\, Rosie\, asks ‘what do I know to be true?’ She is full of doubts\, but by the end of the play she has learnt a lot about the world around her. Whilst the children become more confident of their convictions\, the parents become less sure. \nThings I Know to be True is a deeply intimate drama about family life and conflicts\, featuring physical theatre choreography\, in the style of Frantic Assembly\, to emphasise the emotional connection between the characters. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
