SUMMARY:Big Comedy Little Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Canalside Comedy has lined up another cracking night of stand-up comedy\, for Sunday 8 December.\nMC Matt Fong will be joined by Sam Gore\, Becky Heaviside\, Tom Little and Steve Day. \nMatt’s debut solo show at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival\, was picked as one of the best shows in Edinburgh\, so we’re excited to see him in Hebden Bridge. \nNewer Act\, Becky Heaviside will perform alongside prolific writer and performer\, Sam Gore. Sam cemented his position as one of the best new comedians of his generation with five New Act of the Year awards\, including the national Laughing Horse competition. With his rapid-fire delivery and unique use of language and imagery\, nobody writes a simile quite like Gore. \n‘Inventive\, unexpected and often very silly…[Tom Little]…surely can’t remain a hidden treasure for long.’ – Chortle. This is a rare chance to see him in such an intimate setting.  \nClosing the show\, we’ve got Steve Day\, Britain’s only deaf comedian – well if there are any others\, he hasn’t heard. A familiar voice on Radio 4\, for the past fourteen years Steve has been performing to huge laughter around the country (well they tell him the laughter was huge to humour him\, he doesn’t know either way). \nDoors open at 7pm for this show at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre\, which starts at 8pm. Tickets cost £14. Little Theatre members receive a 10% discount with this code: 2198. \nFurther details available at www.canalsidecomedy.co.uk \n

SUMMARY:Bazaar and Rummage
DESCRIPTION:By Sue Townsend\, directed by Gil Burns \nIn Sue Townsend’s heartfelt comedy\, three severely agoraphobic women have left their houses for the first time in years\, and made it to a jumble sale. The sale has been organised by their social workers\, the young trainee Fliss and the ex-agoraphobic volunteer\, Gwenda. \nAs Margaret\, Bell-Bell and Katrina prepare to meet the public\, armed with the suits of a deceased husband\, old sequinned show dresses\, a standard lamp\, and other bric-a-brac\, nerves run high\, but a sensitive portrait of the group emerges. \nBazaar and Rummage was first presented in 1982 at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs\, London. \n

SUMMARY:Big Comedy Little Theatre
DESCRIPTION:A host of world-famous comics like Michael McIntyre\, John Bishop\, Jimmy Carr and Lee Evans will be featuring at Canalside Comedy at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre on 8 September. Well that’s possibly a slight misrepresentation! But we do have Danny Posthill\, one of the UK’s leading impressionists\, who has become renowned for his hilarious take-offs of such individuals – and many others besides. \nDanny rose to fame in the 2015 series of Britain’s Got Talent\, when he reached the final and produced a stunning performance that fully justified his tag as one of the favourites on the night. What really distinguishes him from other impressionists is the quality of the gags that he incorporates with his mimicry. It has often been said that his set would make a highly impressive stand-up routine in its own right even if it didn’t contain impersonations. \nDanny\, who is based in Hartlepool\, will be joined by two top international acts: Canadian sensation David Tsonos\, who is now UK based\, and Mick Neven\, one of Australia’s busiest comedians\, who we have managed to sign up during his latest visit to these shores. \nLeicester based Rob Coleman will also be showing us why UK audiences have become so excited by his one-liners and quirky observations\, and the evening will hosted by Hull based Nicola Wilkinson\, one of the circuit’s most relaxed\, charming and sought-after MCs. \nTickets for what is sure to be a really cracking evening are already on sale. Sign up to the Canalside Comedy Newsletter for a 10% discount code and find full details of the acts here. \nTickets cost £14\, and can be booked online at https://www.canalsidecomedy.co.uk/\n\n

SUMMARY:Witness for the Prosecution
DESCRIPTION:By Agatha Christie\, directed by Steve Hirst \nLeonard Vole is in the dock for the murder of Emily French\, a wealthy older woman. Unaware that he was a married man\, Miss French had made him her principal heir\, and apparently harboured hopes of marriage. SUMMARY:Big Comedy Little Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Top acts from the comedy circuit\, TV and radio will be appearing on Sunday 28 April\, at the opening night of Canalside Comedy\, at the town’s 115-seat Little Theatre. \nThis is thanks to a chance meeting between two theatre members\, Stacey Buss\, a former comedy promoter\, and Edmund Tirbutt\, an ex-stand-up comic\, during the latest Alan Ayckbourn production at the theatre. \nEdmund says: ‘Both of us had already thought Hebden Bridge Little Theatre would be a fantastic venue for stand-up and\, having just learned of the closure of the town’s comedy club\, launching a series of comedy nights seemed a no-brainer.’ \nStacey and Edmund have quickly turned their idea into reality\, and tickets are now on sale for the first of the comedy nights\, which will be on Sunday 28 April\, at 8pm. It is a truly star-studded line up with TV comedian Jon Richardson as MC\, and prolific radio performer and comic writer Nick Doody headlining. Others on the bill include Noel James\, the Welshman who did so brilliantly on last year’s Britain’s Got Talent\, Lucy Beaumont\, the multi-award winning stand-up and leading radio sitcom actress and writer\, and Kevin Precious – who has become renowned for his comic observations about his previous career as a teacher. This will be a cracking night\, not to be missed! \nTickets\, cost £12\, and can be booked online at www.canalsidecomedy.co.uk \n\n

SUMMARY:The 39 Steps
DESCRIPTION:By Patrick Barlow\, directed by Ray Riches \nWinner of the Olivier Award for Best Comedy\, in 2007\, Patrick Barlow’s play is based on the Buchan novel and Hitchcock film\, about adventurer Richard Hannay\, who is forced to go on the run from an international spy ring\, at the outbreak of the First World War. \nIn this spoof version\, all the characters are played by four actors\, who portray between 100 and 150 roles\, even doubling parts within the same scene. These quick changes are achieved by cunning use of props and costume\, contributing to the general hilarity. Further humour comes from the ingenious use of props – to represent trains and planes on stage\, in a variety of unexpected ways!

SUMMARY:The Last Memory
DESCRIPTION:Talking Stock Productions presents \nThe Last Memory \nBy Alan Stockdill \n‘How can I go to heaven if I don’t know who I am?’ says Ernest to his daughter Lynne when he’s diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. But he also has a plan: to leave a vital imprint of who he is. Lynne is to be the keeper of his memory\, the guardian of their past. Join them on their journey; share their hopes\, fears\, smiles\, strength and tears. Arrive with them as they seize the last memory and a carpe diem hope. \nThis powerful one-act play is inspired by a real-life situation with genuine stories and experiences. The performance will be followed by an interval then an optional Q&A session with the writer/director and actors. \n‘The actors dealt with the difficult subject of dementia tenderly and compassionately\, picking out the humour\, the positives\, the memories and the ‘carpe diem’ moments in a beautiful\, truly touching way…’ \n‘One of the most moving and inspirational pieces of theatre I’ve ever experienced…’ \n‘Shows the sheer love a daughter has for her Daddy who is struggling to remain with his beloved family…’ \n‘Brilliant. There was not a dry eye in the house…’ \nMoney raised from this performance will go to local dementia charities\, including the Living with Dementia group at Hope Baptist Church which helps support both sufferers and carers. It will also help in the bid for Hebden Bridge to become a Dementia Friendly town. \nTickets are £8 (unreserved seating) and tickets are available from Catherine Pasek by texting or phoning 07785 530129. You can also book online at wegottickets.com/talkingstock.
