SUMMARY:Kukutis in the Dark
DESCRIPTION:Kukutis in the Dark: audio drama\, plus Q and A with the team \n When: Sunday 14th May 2023. 7.30pm (doors and bar from 7pm) \nWhere: Hebden Bridge Little Theatre\, Holme Street\, Hebden Bridge HX7 8EE \n Tickets: available from Ticket Source www.ticketsource.co.uk/arc-publications\, concessions £5.00\, full price £8.00. Tickets also available on the door. \nWritten by poet and playwright Amanda Dalton and directed for ARC publications by award-winning producer Polly Thomas\, Kukutis In The Dark is an anarchic\, political\, playful audio adaptation of The Ballads of Kukutis\, an iconic poetry sequence by Lithuania’s leading poet\, Marcelijus Martinaitis (1936- 2013)\, translated by Laima Vincė. \n Featuring a brilliant sound design and offering the audience a unique in-the-dark playback experience\, the piece stars Paterson Joseph (Vigil\, Peep Show)\, Guy Rhys (Mary Queen of Scots\, The Witcher) and Kristina Buikaite (Lithuanian Theatre Company). \nThe event will run from 7.30 – 9.30pm including interval with bar\, an introduction from ARC and informal Q and A with the creative team following the playout. This promises to be an informative\, unusual and entertaining evening\, bringing to vivid life a cultural icon who speaks powerfully to politics in Europe today. \n The Ballads of Kukutis was written in the last days of Soviet rule in Lithuania. Its hero\, the trickster figure Kukutis\, acts and comments on the world around him in the manner of a Shakespearean fool on acid! Kukutis is a folk hero in Lithuania\, symbolising the ‘little’ people rising up against the elite. When Lithuania broke away from Soviet rule in 1988\, in what became known as the ‘Singing’ Revolution\, thousands of people gathered on the streets singing and shouting the name of Kukutis as a symbol of a free\, independent Lithuania. \nProduced by ARC Publications https://www.arcpublications.co.uk/- and supported by the Lithuanian Culture Institute.

SUMMARY:Shazia Mirza: Coconut
DESCRIPTION:Following the success of her critically acclaimed recent shows\, With Love From St. Tropez\, and The Kardashians Made Me Do It\, comedian Shazia Mirza returns to Hebden Bridge Little Theatre with her latest show\, Coconut\, on Saturday 5 March 2022. Nominated for ‘Best Stand Up Tour Show’ in Channel 4’s National Comedy Awards\, Coconut takes on the burning (and infectious) issues of our time! \n‘What have I been doing this past year? Apart from sitting on the settee in my pyjamas\, squeezing my ingrowing hairs whilst watching documentaries on Ted Bundy? I have been staring into space\, coming to the terrible realization that maybe my parents were right. I should have listened to them years ago. Why didn’t I? \n‘But people keep telling me I’ll be ok because I’m a strong woman. What does that mean? I survived The Island with Bear Grylls – who knew that would prepare me for what was about to come…’ \nSaturday 5 March\n7.30pm\nTickets: £16\nhttps://www.ticketsource.co.uk/mtm-productions/t-pjpxde

A word that perfectly describes Gary’s last twelve months. He started the year performing in comedy clubs\, and ended it selling out big theatres in the UK as well as tours in America\, Canada and Europe! \n‘Not one for mincing his words\, Gary has been described as ‘playfully dark’. SUMMARY:Big Comedy Little Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Canalside Comedy is gearing up for its next evening of comedy\, on Sunday\, 8 March. Top circuit names Paul Tonkinson and Scott Bennett are joined by newer acts\, Liam Pickford and Celya Ab and your host for the evening will be the talented Bobby Murdoch. \nYorkshire man\, Paul Tonkinson has long upheld his esteemed reputation as one of the finest stand-ups the UK has to offer. With a unique and distinctive style\, Tonkinson is noted for his effervescent physicality and skilful impressions\, which bring alive exuberant\, tender comic reflections on love\, family and the day-to-day idiosyncrasies of 21st century living. A plethora of first-class material\, combined with tremendous charm and irrepressible\, infectious energy make for a formidable talent. \nLiam Pickford has crafted his own unique brand of stand up\, mixing cleverly honed material and punchlines with excitingly unpredictable audience interaction. All this\, mixed in with a hint of whimsy and clever observations\, is delivered in a wonderfully unenthusiastic and grumpy style. It has been said if Stewart Lee\, Jack Dee and Morrissey ever had a child together then Liam would be the outcome. \nCelya Ab is a most unique emerging talent. Originally from Paris\, and of French-Algerian origin\, Celya is now residing in the sunny city of Birmingham. Celya’s sharp wit brings a unique look into life as a EU expat living in post-Brexit Britain. \nScott Bennett’s stand up just gets better and better. Already being compared to the likes of Peter Kay\, Jason Manford and John Bishop\, he’s surely got a bright future. Naturally hilarious\, Scott is immediately engaging with his brilliantly worded observations. See him in the intimate surroundings of Hebden Bridge Little Theatre before he starts stadium tours! \nCompère Bobby Murdoch is instantly likeable and has the ability to take you on a journey with him. A master of short stories and silly jokes\, Bobby has great variation in his show with witty one liners and amazingly funny stories. \nTickets for what is sure to be another great evening of comedy at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre\, are already on sale\, price £14 (https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/canalside-comedy/canalside-comedy/e-drpxbx). SUMMARY:Feeding the Darkness
DESCRIPTION:‘Art Thou in Darkness? Mind it not for if thou dost\, it will fill thee more…’ \nJames Naylor (17th century Quaker) \nThis 65 minute performance is a result of extensive research into the dark world of state-sanctioned torture and its stark impact on victims\, perpetrators\, families and those who collude in the ‘process’. \nImmersive in style\, Feeding the Darkness frames verbatim monologues\, and dramatic monologues based on true stories\, duologues\, poetry and testimonies which challenge our ignorance and avoidance of this sensitive and disturbing subject. \nIt features such wide-ranging material as the experiences of the mother of Private Lynddie England (court-marshalled for her role in the abuse of Abu Ghraib detainees)\, that of a Kurdish asylum seeker at an appeal tribunal\, and the role of trained medical professionals in state sanctioned torture\, amongst many others. \nFeeding the Darkness both iterates the Quaker position on torture and encourages us to examine how the UN Convention Against Torture (1965) Article 1 is clearly being abused by UK and world-wide governments. \nFeeding the Darkness is on at the Little Theatre\, for one night only\, Friday 24 January 2020\, starting at 7.45pm (doors open 7pm). Tickets are £10\, and are available from the Bookcase\, Market Street\, Hebden Bridge\, and from The Little Bird Café\, 53 Halifax Road\, Todmorden. \nThis production has been commissioned by Q-CAT (Quaker Concern for the Abolition of Torture) and is raising money for the Survivors of Torture Activity Fund.\nTo book a performance or for further information please contact: Journeymen Theatre- www.journeymentheatre.com lynnmorris32@yahoo.co.uk mob: 07791210687

SUMMARY:Big Comedy Little Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Canalside Comedy has lined up another cracking night of stand-up comedy\, for Sunday 8 December.\nMC Matt Fong will be joined by Sam Gore\, Becky Heaviside\, Tom Little and Steve Day. \nMatt’s debut solo show at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival\, was picked as one of the best shows in Edinburgh\, so we’re excited to see him in Hebden Bridge. \nNewer Act\, Becky Heaviside will perform alongside prolific writer and performer\, Sam Gore. This is a rare chance to see him in such an intimate setting.  \nClosing the show\, we’ve got Steve Day\, Britain’s only deaf comedian – well if there are any others\, he hasn’t heard. A familiar voice on Radio 4\, for the past fourteen years Steve has been performing to huge laughter around the country (well they tell him the laughter was huge to humour him\, he doesn’t know either way). \nDoors open at 7pm for this show at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre\, which starts at 8pm. SUMMARY:Big Comedy Little Theatre
DESCRIPTION:A host of world-famous comics like Michael McIntyre\, John Bishop\, Jimmy Carr and Lee Evans will be featuring at Canalside Comedy at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre on 8 September. Well that’s possibly a slight misrepresentation! But we do have Danny Posthill\, one of the UK’s leading impressionists\, who has become renowned for his hilarious take-offs of such individuals – and many others besides. \nDanny rose to fame in the 2015 series of Britain’s Got Talent\, when he reached the final and produced a stunning performance that fully justified his tag as one of the favourites on the night. What really distinguishes him from other impressionists is the quality of the gags that he incorporates with his mimicry. It has often been said that his set would make a highly impressive stand-up routine in its own right even if it didn’t contain impersonations. \nDanny\, who is based in Hartlepool\, will be joined by two top international acts: Canadian sensation David Tsonos\, who is now UK based\, and Mick Neven\, one of Australia’s busiest comedians\, who we have managed to sign up during his latest visit to these shores. \nLeicester based Rob Coleman will also be showing us why UK audiences have become so excited by his one-liners and quirky observations\, and the evening will hosted by Hull based Nicola Wilkinson\, one of the circuit’s most relaxed\, charming and sought-after MCs. \nTickets for what is sure to be a really cracking evening are already on sale. Sign up to the Canalside Comedy Newsletter for a 10% discount code and find full details of the acts here. \nTickets cost £14\, and can be booked online at https://www.canalsidecomedy.co.uk/\n\n
